Our Programs

Advocacy Program

Advocates can attend court with a victim or on their behalf. They inform clients about the court process, act as a form of support, process the outcome of the hearing afterward and safety plan.

24/7 Crisis Response

The 24/7 Crisis Response team consists of trained Crisis Responders, employees, and volunteers who respond on-scene to provide immediate crisis intervention.

Pets Too!

Deciding to leave an abusive relationship is difficult for many reasons. One factor that can complicate leaving is a victim’s concern for a pet that cannot be left behind. Our Pets, Too! Program can make the decision to leave a little easier.

Crime Victim Compensation

Victims can apply for compensation to help with medical bills, counseling, lost wages, etc.

Case Management

Victim Witness Services’ advocates provide basic case management services in a holistic, person-centric approach.

Crisis Counseling

A crisis counselor is available to help victims process their recent victimization event and can help direct the client to an ongoing, longer-term counselor.

Advocacy

Advocacy is a support service for victims, provided in a trauma informed care approach, empowering victims throughout the process.

The primary function of Victim Witness Advocates is to be available from the initial crisis response through the investigation and the entire judicial process; from initial appearance to sentencing. Advocates assist in keeping a victim up to date, educating and explaining what happens at each step, being the voice of the victim, and assisting with meeting personal needs. Advocates can attend all court proceedings with or on behalf of a victim.

Victim Witness Services advocates on behalf of victims to ensure their rights are realized and works in cooperation with Coconino County Attorney’s Office and Flagstaff Municipal Court Prosecutor’s Office.

Case Management

Victim Witness Services’ advocates provide basic case management services in a holistic, person-centric approach. Our advocates work toward empowering a victim to identify needs and establish goals for their healing and recovery. Advocates aid victims in understanding their options and educate on available resources and services. Advocates can facilitate wrap-around support through referrals to partner agencies, education on process, ensuring victim rights are understood and upheld.

Case management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual or family’s comprehensive needs through available resources and services.

Crisis Counseling

Waiting for a counseling appointment can sometimes take an extended period of time. VWS offers free crisis counseling within days of a victimization. The crisis counselor can help with immediate processing of the event and direct you to longer-term counselor.
